Spring Home & Garden Show

Great success at this year’s Spring Home & Garden Show at the Washington County Fairgrounds.  The weather kept us a bit cool and damp at times but we had a great response to both our booth and our kids’ table.

Winner of the $25 Gift Certificate for the Plant Sale was Paulette Miller of Salem.

Waterfront Botanical Gardens Coming to Louisville

Botanica PresentationOur April presentation revealed the master plan for the upcoming $50M Botanica, the new 23-acre botanical gardens coming to Louisville and the Ohio River waterfront area near the Big Four Bridge, a pedestrian walking and cycling bridge joining Louisville with Jeffersonville, Indiana.  Kasey Maier, Director of Program Development, along with Bob Hill, owner of Hidden Hill Nursery in Utica, Indiana, brought to life the many ideas and passions surrounding this multi-year project.

The acreage for the new gardens is located within reach of the 100-mile Louisville Loop already in progress around Louisville Metro, and is situated between Interstate-71 and River Road.  With a concern for the environment, Botanica’s buildings will be LEEDs Certified Platinum with additions such as a living roof on the Visitor’s Center and gray water rescue systems with a natural water filtration garden.

Included in the plans are a Children’s Garden, Conservatory, Education Pavillion, a Great Lawn with open meeting space, an Edible Garden, Orchard, Palisades Garden, Japanese Garden, and a magnificent overlook to Beargrass Creek which also runs through the property.
